Zangeneh is paying the visit to Muscat in pursuit of efforts to establish bilateral cooperation on energy between Iran and Oman.

He is accompanied by a team of senior managers and officials of Iran's oil industry.

The talks come at a time that the US is trying to tighten the noose around the country's main foreign revenue source.

Iran's economy's backbone, the oil industry, has been targeted by Washington's harsh sanctions after the US President Donald Trump announced withdrawal from a nuclear deal with Iran.

Washington has tried to intensify the economic pressure on Iran by refusing to extend sanctions waivers for major buyers of Iran's crude.

Iranian officials, including the oil minister, have said that they would continue selling the crude despite the US attempts on halting the oil import flow by adding pressure on Iran's main oil customers.
