Iran’s onshore South Azadegan oil field is expected to double its production capacity within a year, as the country quickens the pace of its major hydrocarbons projects.

Touraj Dehqani, chief developer of South Azadegan said last week that the oil field’s output would rise to about 25,000 barrels per day in one month as Iranian contractors completed part of the project undergoing work for the last three years, Iran’s Shana news agency reported.

“In Phase 1 of development of this field, achieving 320,000 b/d output is planned. In Phase 2, the planned output would depend on the results of extraction in Phase 1,” said Dehqani.

South Azadegan, located 120 kilometers from the oil-rich city of Ahvaz in southwest Iran, is shared by Iran and Iraq.

Separately, Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company’s head Hassan Montazer Torbati said the company has plans underway to implement projects worth 40,000-50,000 billion Iranian riyals.

He said 30,000 billion Iranian riyals worth of projects were carried out in the last calendar year to March, when more than 700 kilometres of pipeline and 24 turbo-compressors were installed.

He said that the lifting of sanctions on Iran facilitated the financing of projects, mainly in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT).

Meanwhile, Iran Oil Terminals Company’s (IOTC) chief said the company is preparing infrastructure to export oil produced from fields in the West Karoun area in Western Iran.

“Exporting West Karoun crude oil is set to start after preparing infrastructure of Genaveh-Kharg pipeline and an export terminal,” Pirouz Mousavi said.

This pipeline currently has a capacity to export 1.2 to 1.5 million barrels per day of oil.

Mousavi said that Iran’s Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) was studying a project to delivered blended oil of various API gravity.
